Where to Stay in Uluwatu

Uluwatu was the first place I went after touching down in Bali for the very first time. After traveling around Bali for 3-months, I packed up my things and moved to this tiny slice of paradise.

Map of Uluwatu

Uluwatu is just a small area in the Bukit Peninsula, located at the Southernmost tip called "Pecatu." Though the actual area itself is quite small, there are SO many different locations to stay in, each with something different to offer.

Bingin Beach

First on our list is Bingin Beach, an absolutely iconic location situated within the heart of Uluwatu. Bingin Beach is not only stunning but centrally located, with boutique hotels & restaurants nestled into the cliffs overlooking the surf. Prepare to climb some stairs if you choose to stay on the beach, but the fantastic food, great waves, cute shops, and designer villas make it the best place to stay in Uluwatu. There are a million amazing places to stay in Bingin, these are a few of my top picks.

Bingin’s best resorts, ecostays, homestays, and hostels.

Padang Padang

Padang Padang is another great location for those who want to be in the heart of the action. While the actual beach can be a bit touristy, the surrounding areas are fantastic. Suluban beach and Bingin are located on either side, making it the perfect place to explore. You can find great food, beaches, and shops that are just a quick scooter ride away. This area is popular with expats & is home to quite a few private villas.

Dreamsea surf camp is located directly on the beach, with access to Impossible’s surf break. You can choose from a shared room or a private suite, all decorated Bohemian-chic.

Ungasan

Ungasan is the epitome of luxury perched on the cliffs of Bali. Here, you'll find an abundance of 5-star resorts boasting infinity pools, exquisite dining, and world-class beach clubs like Savaya. This exclusive destination is a favorite among honeymooners, the ultra-wealthy, and celebrities. If you're ready to treat yourself, Ungasan is the place to be. Just a short 20-minute drive from Uluwatu, paradise awaits.

Suluban

Suluban beach is home to the world-famous Single Fin & Ulu cliffhouse, consistently providing world-class waves, ethereal cliffside ocean views, and several restaurants. It is only about 10 minutes from Bingin, making it an excellent alternative place to stay.

Ulu Cliffhouse $$$ - Book Here

Looking for the perfect place to stay and party? Look no further than Ulu Cliffhouse! This well-known beach club is nestled right by Suluban beach, making it the ideal spot for beach lovers and party-lovers. Ulu Cliffhouse has stunning views of the rolling waves and vast ocean, just steps from the parties.

Nyang Nyang

Nyang Nyang is arguably the best beach in Uluwatu, still relatively quiet, and offering beautiful views. While it is only a 5-10 minute drive to all the action, it may be a bit farther away than some would like.

Private Jet Villa $$$$$ - Book Here

While this place is EXPENSIVE, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Stay in a private jet on the cliffs overlooking Nyang-Nyang beach, complete with your own private pool and two bedrooms.

Dreamland

Dreamland is undoubtedly one of the nicest beaches in the Uluwatu area. Expect a 10-minute scooter ride away from the action to get there. However, you can find some cheaper accommodation options and good surf in this area, making it worth considering.

Balangan

Balangan beach is a cheaper option than the rest of Pecatu, but it's farther from the main attractions. This is very popular for long-term travelers seeking an affordable monthly rental. The beach is beautiful with some good waves, but it’s a bit to far for my preference.

Central Bukit

If you look at a map of Uluwatu, there is one street that runs in a circle: Jalan Labusait. The North part of Jalan Labusait is where all the action is, and there are a few hidden gems in this area that are still close to everything. Any farther up may not be the best choice for those who want to stay close to restaurants and beaches as it is too far away and has a lot of traffic.
