The Bohemian, Bali — Hotel Review
Where sultry design meets tropical escape—a swanky Canggu hideaway, hidden in plain sight.
Canggu was once a sleepy surf town, known only to a handful of in-the-know travelers spilling over from its livelier neighbor, Seminyak. Today? It’s anything but calm.
Mention you’re heading to Canggu for the weekend, and most expats will greet you with a groan and an eye roll. “Why?” they ask, half-laughing, half-exasperated. And honestly, I get it—between the traffic, construction, beach clubs that don’t seem to sleep, and waves of Aussies on holiday, Canggu can feel like sensory overload.
The truth is, despite all of this—there are still some truly amazing pockets of peace. And nowhere on the island does boutique hotels and designer villas quite like Canggu. The Bohemian—a newly built project hiding in plain sight—is proof of that. It’s one of the places that keeps me coming back to Canggu for weekend escapes, time after time.
The Location
The Bohemian is just two minutes from the heart of Canggu—Batu Bolong—making it incredibly convenient for anyone looking to be close to the action. You’re a quick 7-minute ride from La Brisa, Canggu’s most iconic sunset spot, and just down the road from Love Anchor Market, The Lawn, Canggu Beach, and the ever-busy Crate Café.
Prefer your days less beach club, more bodywork? It’s also just five minutes from Nirvana Life, one of Canggu’s top-tier gyms and wellness spaces, and Bali Social Club, the go-to for Padel and ice baths.
You’re in the center of it all—but the moment you turn down the quiet lane to The Bohemian, the noise starts to fade. The hum of motorbikes softens, incense lingers in the air, and a mellow playlist sets the tone. Just steps from the chaos, and yet somehow, you feel worlds away.
The Rooms
The Bohemian keeps things intentionally small, with just three room types—all stylish, all incredibly well thought out.
There’s the Poolside Suite, the most recent addition. Though it’s their most modest room, it still delivers a high dose of luxury with direct access to the shared pool and lush surroundings. Then there’s the Pool Loft Suite, a two-story apartment with a striking blend of height, space, and curated interiors. We stayed in the Pool Suite, and I can’t recommend it enough—it’s the perfect mix of indoor-outdoor living and indulgent design.
The suite has an undeniable tropical-meets-urban energy: a private plunge pool and garden sit just off the sunken living room and open kitchen. You’re surrounded by greenery, yet stepping inside feels like entering a swanky Brooklyn loft. The space is framed by exposed brick walls, a golden steel countertop, and oversized industrial pendant lights that give the whole room a soft, cinematic glow.
Then come the details. A velvet golden couch anchors the living area. Cocktail glasses that feel plucked straight from an Anthropologie display. Carefully chosen wooden accents. Floor-to-ceiling black-paned windows invite just the right amount of light through the jungle canopy. The lighting is intentionally low—sexy, cinematic, and designed for slow, easy mornings or romantic nights in.
And did I mention the bathroom? Minimalist yet dramatic, it’s anchored by a black stone sink and dual rain showerheads, framed by soft, scented steam from the diffuser that hums quietly in the corner. It’s giving sultry spa cave, and I loved every minute of it.
It’s the kind of place that feels curated, not styled. Intentional, not overdone. And that’s exactly what makes it feel so special.
The bedroom continues the theme—rich, layered textures, dark tones, soft lighting, and a bed framed by oversized art and low-set lamps. It feels effortlessly cool, indulgent without being flashy. The whole space just feels sexy.
And really, there’s no doubt that’s intentional. It’s called The Bohemian for a reason—it’s unconventional and unafraid to be different, standing in quiet rebellion against Bali’s wave of all-white, Santorini-inspired stays. This one doesn’t blend in. And that’s exactly why I love it.
The Food
Food is one area where The Bohemian still feels like it’s finding its rhythm. When we visited, the menu had just launched, though the curated cocktail list was already solid. The property’s eatery follows an open-concept design where guests can look directly into the kitchen and bar. There’s just one large, communal table—casual, intimate, and very on-brand for the space.
Breakfast was included with our stay and, while enjoyable, it’s hard to compete with the sheer volume of incredible cafés that lie just minutes away. But honestly, if you’re staying in Canggu, you’ll want to be eating out anyway—this is one of the best food scenes on the island.
And that’s part of the charm: The Bohemian doesn’t try to be everything. It simply places you at the center of it all—within walking distance of Bali’s best bites, while still giving you a quiet place to retreat back to when the day winds down.
The Property
The Bohemian is a small, design-focused hotel—but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in space. While the footprint is intimate, the rooms themselves are massive. The property includes a handful of suites, a stylish shared pool, an open-air lobby, and the eatery.
The shared pool is undeniably beautiful—think black tiles, hanging chandeliers, and a moody, cinematic vibe—but to be honest, we never used it. Our private plunge pool felt like a hidden sanctuary, and we couldn’t tear ourselves away.
The Service
Service at The Bohemian was warm, attentive, and refreshingly prompt. One standout perk? The complimentary buggy service to nearby hotspots—which came in especially handy when we wanted to skip the scooter ride in the rain.
Like most places in Bali, the staff was kind and welcoming, but here, it felt a bit more polished. Friendly without being overbearing, helpful without hovering. Just the way it should be.
The Surroundings
As I mentioned earlier, you really can’t beat this location. The Bohemian puts you right on the edge of Berawa and Batu Bolong, where all the action happens. From here, you’re just minutes away from Canggu’s best beach clubs, cafés, boutiques, and wellness spots.
For sunset, I highly recommend spending an evening at La Brisa or The Lawn—two of the most iconic beach hangouts in Bali.

Everything about the space feels sexy and intentional—from the moody lighting to the velvet furniture and the private pool tucked into your own little jungle. It’s a place to slow down, lean into luxury, and live out your moody design dreams.
While Canggu gets a bad rap for being chaotic (and let’s be honest, it is), The Bohemian is proof that it still has its magic—if you know where to look.
